Great Plains Women's Health Center offers a state of the art ultrasound department. Our ultrasonographers are licensed and experienced in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound.
Here are some particular facts you need to know before you arrive for your ultrasound.
OB Ultrasounds
Ultrasounds are usually performed vaginally until your 13th week of gestation. After this time they are performed abdominally.
A full bladder is NOT required.
No videotaping will be conducted by the patient of the ultrasound technician
Ultrasounds are generally performed for medical reasons only. They are not included in the global fee. We will file your insurance claim for you .
GYN Ultrasounds
GYN ultrasounds may be performed transabdominally or vaginally; therefore, a full bladder is required. You may need to empty your bladder upon arrival depending the type of exam needed. Occasionally a physician may order an abdominal ultrasound of the pelvis, which would require a full bladder. Under these circumstances, the patient will need to finish drinking 32 ounces of any fluid, with the exception of milk, one hour prior to the ultrasound.
Saline Ultrasounds
A full bladder is NOT required.
An initial vaginal ultrasound is performed to evaluate the uterus and the ovaries if no recent ultrasound has been performed. The provider will then place a small tube through the cervix and dispense a small amount of saline solution into the uterus while the ultrasound is being performed. The results will be available to the patient immediately after the scan is complete.
All Ultrasounds
As our rooms are small and too many people in the room can be a distraction for the technician, only three (3) guests may accompany you to your ultrasound. Children under the age of five (5) must have adult supervision other than the patient. Additionally, all cell phones must remain OFF during your ultrasound scan.
